Mikaela Shiffrin completed another dominant night in Flachau on Tuesday, winning a World Cup slalom to extend her season-long stranglehold on the discipline while leading an American one-two finish with teammate Paula Moltzan.

Shiffrin followed up her fastest opening run with a composed second run to finish 0.41sec clear of Moltzan, claiming her sixth victory in seven slalom races this season. It was also Shiffrin’s record-extending 107th career World Cup win, her 70th in slalom and her sixth slalom victory on the demanding Flachau course.

Moltzan, who was chasing her first career World Cup win, delivered a strong second run to secure second place, marking another podium in a season that has seen her establish herself among the world’s most consistent technical skiers.

Katharina Truppe of Austria rounded out the podium, finishing 0.65sec behind Shiffrin after holding third place following the opening run.

Camille Rast of Switzerland, who recently snapped Shiffrin’s winning streak, slipped out of podium contention after an error late in her first run and finished off the pace, while Lara Colturi, the Italian-born racer competing for Albania, endured a difficult night and finished more than two seconds back.

With only one slalom remaining before the Milano Cortina Winter Games open on 6 February, Shiffrin is closing in on another season-long slalom title. She can clinch the crystal globe if she wins on 25 January in the Czech resort of Spindleruv Mlyn and Rast finishes outside the top 14.

Moltzan, whose best World Cup results include four second-place and four third-place finishes, continues to build momentum heading into the Olympics after also winning bronze in giant slalom at last season’s world championships.
